Zelensky Approves Law: Foreigners Can Serve as Officers

1 Mins Read

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law that allows foreigners or non-Ukrainian citizens to serve in officer positions in the military. An official statement on the Ukrainian Parliament’s website indicated that President Zelensky had signed a law permitting foreign nationals or non-Ukrainian citizens to serve in the Ukrainian armed forces. On October 10th, the Parliament had approved a draft law concerning the procedure for foreign or non-Ukrainian citizens to serve as contract soldiers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the State Special Transport Service, and the National Guard of Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed criticism of Zelensky’s decision, stating, “Thus, foreign commanders will more actively finish the job of Ukrainians. Otherwise, one Ukrainian won’t send another Ukrainian to death in sorrow. Zelensky isn’t getting paid for this.”
