Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski stated that the US needs to pressure Russia for a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Speaking at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris, Zelenski evaluated the discussions in Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, noting that despite the ceasefire agreements made there, attacks on Ukraine by Russia continue. Zelenski argued that stronger joint actions are necessary for the war to truly end, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire in the Black Sea and mentioning that Russia has started discussing some additional conditions for it to happen, stating, “Therefore, we expect the American side to ensure an unconditional silence (ceasefire) in the sea.” Responding to a question about Russia demanding the lifting of sanctions in exchange for a ceasefire in the Black Sea, Zelenski reported that sanctions were not discussed between Ukrainian and US delegations during the talks in Saudi Arabia. Zelenski also mentioned that in his bilateral meeting with Macron, they discussed issues related to providing more French Mirage 2000s to Ukraine. Addressing the possible deployment of foreign soldiers in his country for security guarantees, Zelenski noted that this could be important to prevent Russian attacks, stating that if peace forces were deployed in Ukraine, their primary task would be to control the situation in the field, adding, “No one wants to drag any country into war. Quotas for control are crucial.” Zelenski announced that discussions on the matter will take place at the Ukraine summit to be held in Paris.
