2 Mins Read

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski stated that they have information about hundreds of Chinese citizens fighting in the Russian army against their country. Zelenski addressed participants via video conference at the “Ukraine Defense Contact Group (Ramstein) 27th Meeting” held at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Zelenski mentioned sending a message to the conference during his visit to the city of Kriviy Rig, where the Russian army launched a ballistic missile attack on April 4. He expressed the need for more effective air defense capabilities as Russia continued to launch ballistic missile attacks on their country. Zelenski specifically mentioned the necessity of Patriot air defense systems, saying, “We need 10 Patriot systems. The free world has them.” He highlighted that “Hundreds of Chinese Are Now Fighting Against Ukraine” as Russia has started including Chinese citizens in its army, emphasizing that they are clearly attempting to continue the war, even at the cost of Chinese lives. Zelenski called on allies to increase pressure on Russia and emphasized the need for more investment in Europe’s defense industry. He also mentioned ongoing collaboration with partner countries regarding the deployment of foreign soldiers as a peacekeeping force within the scope of security guarantees. The video footage of Chinese prisoners being interrogated was shared by Zelenski on social media. Chinese-speaking soldiers narrated their backstories and how they were captured. One soldier mentioned participating in combat for the first time and said, “I had never fired a weapon before this.” Another soldier described being part of a group with two other Chinese soldiers before chaos ensued, stating, “Everyone scattered, I don’t know if they’re alive.” The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian advised the relevant parties to understand China’s role correctly and refrain from making irresponsible statements. Jian emphasized that China is neither the creator nor a party to the Ukraine crisis, being a loyal supporter and active advocate of the peaceful resolution of the crisis. According to the statement, China urges its citizens, especially to refrain from participating in any military operations of the parties.
