Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı announced their aim to stop red meat imports. Yumaklı stated that food supply security is as important as national security.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made statements at the Kazım Karabekir Farming Enterprise (TİGEM) in Iğdır. Minister Yumaklı mentioned the three main goals of the Livestock Production Development Project announced in February. The first goal is to provide producers with sustainable animal procurement at reasonable costs. Yumaklı stated that the first aim is to ensure cost-effective animal procurement for producers. “The second goal is to ensure that consumers reach red meat at affordable prices and ultimately to close Turkey’s issue related to meat or animal imports, even if it is a very small percentage,” he said. Yumaklı mentioned that in the new support model, for the first time, positive discrimination will be applied to women and young farmers. Minister Yumaklı emphasized that food supply security is equally important as national security. He noted that the rate of foot-and-mouth disease has been reduced by approximately 80%.
