Research regarding the Republic Day bonus for retirees has gained momentum this year as it did last year. In 2023, a one-time 5000 TL Republic Day bonus was paid to retirees due to the 100th anniversary of the Republic. Murat Tokgöz, the President of the Mamak Branch of the Turkey Retirees Association (TÜED), requested the continuation of the bonus given to retirees last year in honor of the Republic’s centennial. The question of whether retirees will receive the 29 October Republic Day bonus or not this year is swarming. So, will retired individuals receive a 29 October bonus this year? Will they be paid a 5000 TL bonus? Millions of retirees are beginning to investigate whether the Republic Day bonuses will be handed out this year or not. Last year, due to the 100th Anniversary of the Republic, a one-time 5000 TL bonus was provided to retirees with the joint efforts of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. Therefore, the Turkey Retirees Association (TÜED) Mamak Branch President Murat Tokgöz called for the continuation of the bonus given to retirees last year in honor of the Republic’s 100th anniversary. Tokgöz mentioned in a written statement that the Republic’s 100th anniversary was celebrated enthusiastically across the country last year, and retirees were paid 5000 lira as part of the anniversary. Stressing that the payment helped many retirees meet their needs, Tokgöz noted: “Thanks to the 5000 lira payment made last year on Republic Day, many retirees entered winter with an additional amount of money in their hands.” We demand that the bonus given to our retirees on the occasion of the Republic’s 100th anniversary be named ‘Republic Day Bonus’ and that it be paid every year in an amount equivalent to one salary. This practice will highly satisfy millions of our retirees and contribute to their celebration of the Republic Day with even more enthusiasm.” Approximately 17 million retirees receive bonuses twice a year during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. Last year, payments for bonuses were made for the third time due to the 100th anniversary of the Republic. Whether the arrangement made last year by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Treasury and Finance will be repeated this year is yet unknown. If an arrangement is made, it is expected to be announced to the public before the 29 October Republic Day. In 2025, retirees of SSK, Bağ-Kur, and the Retirement Fund will receive bonuses during both Ramadan and Eid al-Adha. The amount of the bonuses for the year 2025, which was determined as 3000 TL last year, has not yet been disclosed. Generally, bonuses are transferred to accounts by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security about a week before the holiday.
