Various claims regarding the situation of Hizbullah Secretary General Hasan Nasrallah have sparked debates. Israeli media alleges that Nasrallah was killed in the air strikes in the Dahiye region in southern Beirut. So, who is Hizbullah leader Hasan Nasrallah? Hasan Nasrallah was born in Bourj Hammoud, northeast of Beirut. He is the Secretary General of Hizbullah in Lebanon. He was elected as the general secretary of Hizbullah after the assassination of Abbas Musavi by Israel in 1992. Here is the biography of Hasan Nasrallah… WHO IS HASAN NASRALLAH? Lebanon’s Hizbullah Secretary General Hasan Nasrallah was born on August 31, 1960 in the capital city of Beirut. Nasrallah was born in the Bourj Hammoud region in northeast Beirut, where his father, a resident of the city of Tyre in the south of the country, came to find work. Nasrallah, who was 15 years old when the civil war broke out in Lebanon in 1975, returned with his family to their hometown of the village of al-Bazuriye in Tyre and joined the Shi’a Amal Movement. Nasrallah, who received religious education at schools called “hawza” in Iraq and Iran, later returned to Lebanon to study at the school founded by Emel Movement leader Abbas Musevi. After Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982, he joined the Hizbullah organization. He was elected as the general secretary of Hizbullah on February 12, 1992, after the assassination of Abbas Musevi by Israel. During the Israel-Lebanon War, Nasrallah’s office, which he visited a few hours before, was destroyed by the bombs dropped by Israel on July 14, 2006. However, Nasrallah managed to survive. Nasrallah gained significant prestige for Hizbullah’s role in the liberation of southern Lebanon from the 22-year Israeli occupation in 2000 and then the fight against Israel in the July 2006 war, being seen as the winner of the 2006 Lebanon War in many Middle Eastern countries as Hizbullah. Nasrallah also played an important role in brokering a swap agreement for the return of Lebanese and Arab prisoners and the bodies of resistance fighters detained by Israel. His fervent speeches and strong personality became factors that gained him popularity in the Arab and Islamic world, and his speeches received wide attention and interest. However, after Hizbullah sided with the Bashar al-Assad regime in suppressing the 2011 Syrian revolution, Nasrallah lost much of this popularity. Hizbullah, along with other armed movements supported by Iran, contributed to the displacement of millions of Syrians in Syria by participating in the war initiated by the Assad regime against revolutionaries. This led to serious criticisms directed towards Hizbullah, its leadership, and especially Nasrallah. When Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launched a comprehensive attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, in response to continuous violations against Palestinians and sacred values, Nasrallah’s name came to the forefront again. Nasrallah announced that a front was opened in southern Lebanon against Israel to support the Palestinian resistance and stated in many speeches that this front would not calm down until the fighting in Gaza was over. However, Nasrallah emphasized that this front was a support front for Palestine, implying that they did not want to engage in a full-scale war with Israel.
