White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated the call for de-escalation between Israel and Hezbollah and a 21-day ceasefire, emphasizing that an all-out war would not solve anything in the region. During the daily press briefing, Jean-Pierre evaluated the tension on the Israel-Lebanon border, expressing that they did not want the already high tension in the region to escalate further, and thus, mentioning the intense diplomacy in New York during the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. The US spokesperson highlighted that as a result of these efforts, with the support of both G7 countries and some Arab nations, they issued an urgent temporary ceasefire call at the Israel-Lebanon border for 21 days, addressing all parties to once again appeal for this ceasefire. Jean-Pierre stated, “We do not believe that an all-out war is the answer to (the tension in the region), we are clear on this. We are doing our best for a temporary ceasefire to open up space for progress. The joint statement was coordinated with the Israelis.” The White House spokesperson also mentioned that US officials are continuing their discussions on this matter in New York, and she stated that she would not make any comments regarding Israel’s negative response to the 21-day ceasefire. The joint statement led by the US and France, bringing together the European Union (EU) and eight more countries, called for an urgent ceasefire of 21 days to stop the conflicts between Israel and Lebanon and open up space for diplomacy. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had stated in New York regarding the issue, that they will continue the attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon until they reach their goals.
