The Federal Reserve cut its policy rate by 50 basis points after a 4-year hiatus, bringing it down from the 5.25-5.50% range, which was the highest level in 23 years, to the 4.75-5.00% range. Many people closely following the economic agenda now wonder whether the Fed will have a meeting in October. So, when will the FED interest rate decision be announced? In September, while the Fed and the European Central Bank (ECB) cut interest rates, the Central Bank of Russia and the Central Bank of Brazil decided to raise interest rates. The Bank of Japan (BoJ), the Bank of England (BoE), and the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) kept their policy rates unchanged. All eyes are now on the latest interest rate decision of the Fed and its subsequent impact on the markets. Here is the 2024 FED meeting date… FED MEETING DATE: The Federal Reserve (Fed) will hold 8 meetings in 2024. There is no planned meeting in October for the Fed. The next meeting of the Fed will take place on November 6-7, 2024. The Fed’s interest rate decision is expected to be announced on the evening of November 7th, Turkish time. FED CUTS INTEREST RATES AFTER FOUR YEARS: The Fed cut its policy rate for the first time in 4 years, reducing it by 50 basis points to the 4.75-5.00% range. In the statement, it was indicated that employment gains slowed down, while the unemployment rate increased, even though it continued to remain low. The statement mentioned that inflation is moving towards the 2% target but remains high, stating that more confidence has been gained that inflation will sustainably decrease towards 2% and that the risks of reaching employment and inflation targets are roughly balanced. Revealing its economic forecasts, the Fed indicated that it could go through a total of 50 basis points more in interest rate cuts this year.
