WHEN WILL THE ECB INTEREST DECISION BE ANNOUNCED?
The schedule for the European Central Bank (ECB) Monetary Policy Council’s interest meeting in April has been announced. Accordingly, the ECB interest decision meeting will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2025. The interest decision will be announced at 16:15 after the meeting. WHAT DIRECTION WILL THE ECB INTEREST DECISION TAKE? Experts predict that due to concerns about stagnation caused by tariffs, the downward trend in inflation in the Eurozone, and the appreciation of the euro, the ECB may cut interest rates. Peter Vanden Houte, Chief Economist of ING Group, stated in an evaluation to AA, “Last month, the ECB implied that the interest rate level was less restrictive and that a pause in the interest rate cut cycle could be expected as a faster Euro zone growth is anticipated.” Houte stated that the situation has changed radically since April 2, termed as the “day of salvation” by U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that the U.S. tariffs could easily reduce the ECB’s growth by 0.3 points. Camatte expressed that the drop in oil prices and the appreciation of the euro could limit inflationary pressures caused by retaliatory tariffs of the EU, stating that this situation would once again give the ECB enough room for an interest rate cut. Therefore, Camatte emphasized that there could be a 25 basis points interest rate cut in June as well.
