Warning to Consumers about Fake Olive Oil

1 Mins Read

Prior to the olive harvest, the Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce warned consumers about olive oil fraud. The olive harvest begins in October every year and continues until the end of February. Olive oil is among the most frequently counterfeited products in the updated list of adulterated foods by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Before the harvest, the Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce alerted consumers to olive oil fraud. The President of the Ayvalık Chamber of Commerce, Ali Uçar, highlighted that not every olive oil with the Ayvalık label is genuine Ayvalık olive oil. Uçar recommended tasting the olive oil before purchasing. Uçar stated, “Consumers should always buy from well-known places. They should prefer products from established places with known addresses and where they can find a representative.” It was emphasized that consumers should not buy products without a brand, stored in plastic bottles, or sold by the roadside as organic if not stored under suitable conditions.
