Warning from KVKK about November discounts: Protect your personal data

November 6, 20241 Mins Read

The Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) issued a warning to those who want to take advantage of the discount campaigns organized in November to avoid becoming victims of fraud by “protecting your personal data.”

KVKK stated that a series of precautions could prevent possible fraud cases during campaign periods that intensify online shopping, usually organized under various names each November.

To avoid falling victim to fraud in online shopping, it is important to verify whether campaign messages and notifications come from the original source, ensure the accuracy of the website link where shopping will take place. Check if the website for shopping has 3D secure payment method and SSL certificate. Review the information texts on processing personal data. Use virtual card information instead of physical card details for payment. Conduct transactions on personal devices if possible, update passwords for suspicious transactions. Do not open emails from sources whose security is uncertain, avoid rushing while dealing with fake links and discounts. Be skeptical if asked for information unrelated to the transaction.
