The Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned that there may be ‘bugs’ in Rude Health’s Chocolatey Crunchy Granola and advised against consuming it. Officials stated that the products with an expiration date of 24/10/2025 are not safe to eat, urging customers not to consume them if purchased. However, Rude Health claimed that the bugs pose no risk to human health. The brand emphasized that their products contain no artificial ingredients and they strive to make healthy snacks as tasty as possible. Previously, products from brands like Nestlé, Tesco, and TK Maxx have also been recalled.
Consuming expired foods can increase the risk of poisoning. Bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins are among the contaminants that can cause food poisoning. Food poisoning typically manifests with symptoms affecting the stomach and intestinal system.
These include:
Abdominal pain and cramps: usually among the initial signs of food poisoning.
Nausea and vomiting: results from the body’s defense mechanism when food enters the stomach.
Diarrhea: the body speeds up excretion with excess water to eliminate harmful substances.
Fever: an immune system response to infection.
Dizziness and weakness: as the body loses fluids, dizziness and weakness may occur.
Dehydration: symptoms like dry mouth, reduced urine output, and dizziness are due to fluid loss. Treatment methods for food poisoning can be categorized as follows:
Fluid intake: dehydration can occur due to diarrhea and vomiting, so consuming water, electrolyte-containing beverages (e.g., oral rehydration solutions), and liquid foods like soup is essential.
Medication: in the case of bacterial infections, a doctor may prescribe antibiotic treatment. Supportive therapy is usually sufficient for viral food poisoning.
Rest: providing enough rest for the body to combat the infection is crucial.
Antiemetics: drugs recommended by a doctor can help control nausea if vomiting is an issue.
Antidiarrheal medications: in cases of mild diarrhea, certain medications used under a doctor’s supervision can help alleviate symptoms.
