Volcanic Panic in Iceland: Tourist Area Evacuated

Due to volcanic activity in southwest Iceland, the touristic Blue Lagoon area was evacuated. According to Iceland’s broadcasting corporation RUV, seismic activity occurred in the town of Grindavik at 06:30 local time. Concerned that the seismic activity might lead to a volcanic eruption, the Blue Lagoon tourist area was evacuated. The Iceland Meteorological Office reported that over 200 earthquakes have been recorded in the area since the seismic activity began.
