Al-Assad and his delegation were welcomed at the airport by UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayid El Nahyan. Following this, Al-Assad and his delegation met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayid El Nahyan at El Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi. This marks Al-Assad’s second official visit as the President of Syria to a Gulf country, as reported by Reuters news agency. It is noted that Syrian Foreign Minister Esad Sheybani accompanied Al-Assad on this visit, and discussions are expected to focus on issues related to the “mutual interests” of both countries during Al-Assad’s diplomatic talks in the UAE. Al-Assad had previously made his first foreign visit to Saudi Arabia in February, followed by a visit to Turkey. During his visit to Antalya for the Diplomacy Forum on Friday, Al-Assad also met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting, which took place at the hotel where Erdogan was staying, was closed to the press. A statement from the Presidency Communication Directorate indicated that Al-Assad and President Erdogan discussed Turkey-Syria bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues.
