Visit by Minister Şimşek to Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek visited the headquarters of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), of which Turkey is also a member, in Beijing. Currently in Beijing for the second meeting of the Turkey-China Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek continues his contacts in China. As part of his contacts, Şimşek had a one-on-one meeting with the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Jin Liqun, during a courtesy visit. Established in 2016 with the participation of 57 countries under China’s leadership to provide international financing for infrastructure projects worldwide, including the Belt and Road Initiative, in its inception with 100 billion dollars of capital, AIIB accepted an additional 53 countries in subsequent years and reached 110 members. Member countries of the bank represent more than 81% of the world’s population and over 65% of global GDP.
