Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz addressed allegations of a $25 billion reserve loss by stating, “Some losses occurred in reserves. Certain institutions took steps to prevent temporary fluctuations in the market.”
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz evaluated the economic impacts of the process that started with the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
“THERE MAY BE SOME VOLATILITY” Yılmaz stated: “Some losses occurred in reserves. Our Central Bank took proactive actions as necessary, and our Capital Markets Board and other relevant institutions did so as well. They acted correctly. There may be some volatility due to market actors adopting a wait-and-see policy in their expectations. I don’t expect it to be too excessive. Expectations of inflation deteriorating by 1 point, 2 points, the effects brought about by the movements in the exchange rate, we will also see that. But I don’t anticipate an exaggerated impact.” Responding to calls by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for a boycott of some companies, Cevdet Yılmaz deemed, “I view the boycott call against our national and local companies as a very dangerous and harmful discourse.”
CRITICISM OF DEM PARTY ON THE PROCESS Vice President Yılmaz’s agenda during a program on Habertürk also included the goal of a “Terror-Free Turkey.” Yılmaz stated that the terrorist organization needs to implement the call coming from İmralı and criticized the DEM Party regarding the process with the following words: “I believe DEM Party members are not fulfilling their duties adequately. They should say ‘Look, the terrorist organization that founded you, your founding member called for your dissolution. As a party advocating democratic politics, they should make the same call.'”
