The USA and Russian delegations will discuss possible steps to halt conflicts in the Black Sea waters and reach a ceasefire in Ukraine during their meetings in Saudi Arabia today. Diplomatic talks initiated by US President Donald Trump to end the war in Ukraine have gained momentum. In the past weeks, Trump has held discussions with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts. The American delegation, after meeting with the Ukrainian side yesterday, will engage in technical discussions with the Russian side today within the framework of what is described as technical discussions. According to statements from the White House, the discussions will address halting conflicts in the Black Sea waters, aiming to open up commercial ship traffic for all countries bordering the Black Sea. According to information provided by Trump’s national security advisor Mike Waltz, the delegations will conduct negotiations on a ceasefire in the Black Sea, as well as discussions on the “control line” between Ukraine and Russia.
In this context, “verification mechanisms, peacekeeping efforts, and the fixing of the line on existing lines” will be addressed. Waltz also mentioned that “confidence-building measures” such as the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia will be discussed. A source familiar with the planned meetings stated that the US delegation will be led by senior officials from the White House National Security Council, Andrew Peek, and the US Department of State, Michael Anton.
