USA Aims to Break Up Google

2 Mins Read

The US Department of Justice announced that it will propose the sale of a part of Google. The Department also targeted Google’s expansion in the field of artificial intelligence. The company stated that it will appeal the radical proposals.

In the USA, it was reported that the parent company of Google, Alphabet, could be forced to split. A US judge decided in August that Google, covering 90% of internet searches in the USA, formed an illegal monopoly. The Department of Justice also stated that it is considering proposing the forced sale of a part of Google’s operations to mitigate the damage caused by Google’s monopoly in the online search market. The statement mentioned that “putting an end to Google’s control over distribution today also requires preventing Google from controlling distribution tomorrow.”

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE EXPANSION ALSO TARGETED

The Department of Justice’s proposals also included preventing Google’s dominance in the field of artificial intelligence.

It was noted that the proposed solutions could reshape how Americans access information on the internet.

Furthermore, it was stated that by reducing Google’s revenues, the proposals could allow rivals to grow. GOOGLE’S RESPONSE Google opposed the proposals, stating that they were radical. The company announced its intention to appeal, highlighting that its search engine quality is preferred by users.

It was also noted that users have the option to change search engines. It is estimated that the Department of Justice will present a more detailed proposal to the court by November 20th.

Google will also have the opportunity to present its own solution proposals by December 20th.
