The US Treasury Department has reduced its borrowing estimate for the fourth quarter of this year from $565 billion to $546 billion. The department revealed borrowing estimates for the months of October-December of this year and January-March of the following year. It was noted in the announcement that borrowing of $546 billion is expected in the fourth quarter of this year, with an estimated cash balance of $700 billion at the end of December. The statement mentioned that the borrowing projection is $19 billion lower than the estimate announced in July. The announcement also stated that the Treasury is expected to borrow $823 billion in the first quarter of 2025, with a cash balance of $850 billion at the end of March. It was mentioned in the statement that the Treasury borrowed $762 billion in the July-September period of this year, with a cash balance of $886 billion at the end of that quarter. In July, the department had announced that borrowing of $740 billion was expected in the third quarter, with an estimated cash balance of $850 billion at the end of September.
