During a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, US President Joe Biden announced that they will be providing $425 million in new defense aid to Kiev. According to a statement from the White House, President Biden spoke with President Zelensky over the phone. In the conversation, Biden mentioned that a new defense aid package of $425 million will be sent to Ukraine, which will include various air defense weapons, as well as numerous armored vehicles and ammunition. Biden emphasized that he will continue to support Ukraine during the remaining time of his term, highlighting the importance of standing by Kiev against “Russian aggression.” The US administration will send weapons urgently needed by the Ukrainian army, such as hundreds of air defense missiles, dozens of tactical air defense systems, additional artillery systems, a large quantity of ammunition, and hundreds of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles through the new defense package. Biden, who will visit Germany on October 18th, reportedly has plans on his agenda regarding the support to Ukraine and new steps to be taken by the US and European countries. President Zelensky shared his appreciation for his meeting with Biden on his social media account. Zelensky thanked President Biden, Congress, and the American people for the $425 million defense package that includes new air defense systems and long-range weapons. During their meeting, Zelensky suggested exploring the possibility of enhancing joint weapon production and discussed additional training for Ukrainian soldiers. Zelensky noted that they discussed evaluating the upcoming online Ramstein format of the Ukraine Defense Reform Advisory Team meeting and informed Biden about his presentation of the Victory Plan in the Ukrainian Parliament, where he received strong support from all parties and groups. Zelensky stated that he will also present this plan to their EU partners at a meeting of the European Council tomorrow.
