After discussing the situation in Lebanon with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that they are determined to defend Israel. Austin also mentioned that US forces in the region are deployed to protect American troops and facilities.

The Pentagon issued a statement following the killing of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah by Israel.

According to the statement, Pentagon reported that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had two discussions yesterday with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant regarding the events in Lebanon. Austin expressed full support to Israel for defending itself against “Iran-backed terrorist groups.” Additionally, he emphasized the US’s determination to prevent Iran and its allies from taking advantage of the situation or expanding the conflict. Austin reiterated that the US is positioned to protect American forces and facilities in the region and is committed to defending Israel.

Furthermore, a statement from the White House yesterday revealed that US President Joe Biden instructed the Pentagon to evaluate and adjust the stance of US forces in the Middle East as necessary.
