US President Joe Biden has approved $567 million in aid for defense purposes to Taiwan. The US stands as Taiwan’s most significant international supporter and arms supplier.
An announcement from the White House revealed that President Joe Biden has approved $567 million in aid to Taiwan for defense amid escalating tensions with China.
The statement mentioned that President Biden has authorized the US Secretary of State to manage up to $567 million in cuts in Defense Department defense products and services, military training, and education to provide assistance to Taiwan, but no further details were provided.
President Biden signed a bill in April that provided billions of dollars in new US aid to Ukraine, as well as Israel and Taiwan.
Even though the US does not have official diplomatic relations, it remains Taiwan’s most important international supporter and arms supplier. China, on the other hand, demands that the Washington administration ceases arms sales to Taipei.
Taipei has criticized the delay in US arms deliveries, including the renewed F-14 fighter jets. China, considering Taiwan part of its territory, has increased political and military pressure on Taiwan over the past five years.
