United States extends Gazprom exemption for Turkey

1 Mins Read

Following negotiations between Turkey and the United States, the exemption period granted for Gazprombank sanctions has been extended until May. The exemption originally given to Turkey on December 20 was set to expire today. The Ministry of Treasury and Finance, along with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, had been conducting intensive work on the matter. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek had a teleconference meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding this issue. Turkey makes payments to Gazprombank for natural gas imports from Russia. The exemption was put in place to ensure that Turkey’s payments were not affected by US sanctions against the company.
