UNIFIL to Stay in Lebanon Despite Israel’s Request

1 Mins Read

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will continue its mission.

UNIFIL Spokesperson Andrea Tenenti announced that they will remain in their positions in Lebanon under Israeli attacks and have emergency plans ready to activate when necessary. Regarding Israel’s request to withdraw their troops, Tenenti stated that on September 30, the Israeli army informed them of their intention to conduct “limited ground attacks” in Lebanon and asked to change some positions. “Our peacekeeping troops continue to stay in all locations in Lebanon, regularly adjusting our stance and activities, and we have emergency plans ready to activate,” said Tenenti without giving detailed information about these plans, inviting all actors to respect the safety and security of the Peacekeeping Force. Tenenti added, “We call on Lebanon and Israel to adhere to the valid solution that will restore stability in the region not only in word but also in action, which is UN Security Council Resolution 1701.”
