The unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 points in August, reaching 8.5%. During this period, the number of unemployed individuals decreased by 89 thousand, dropping to 3 million 55 thousand. The unemployment rate in the youth population increased by 0.1 points, reaching 16.5%.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the unemployment data for August.
According to the Household Labor Force Survey results, the number of unemployed individuals aged 15 and over decreased by 89 thousand compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 55 thousand in August. The unemployment rate also decreased by 0.3 points, reaching 8.5%. The unemployment rate was estimated to be 7% for males and 11.4% for females.
LIMITED INCREASE IN YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT
The unemployment rate in the youth population aged 15-24 increased by 0.1 points compared to the previous month, reaching 16.5%. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated to be 13.8% for males and 21.4% for females.
LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION DECLINED
The seasonally adjusted labor force decreased by 10 thousand individuals in August compared to the previous month, dropping to 35 million 831 thousand. The labor force participation rate decreased by 0.1 points, reaching 54.3%. The labor force participation rate was 72.1% for males and 36.8% for females.
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED EMPLOYMENT
The number of seasonally adjusted employed individuals increased by 78 thousand in August compared to the previous month, reaching 32 million 776 thousand. The employment rate increased by 0.1 points, reaching 49.7%. This rate was recorded as 67.1% for males and 32.6% for females.
INCREASED WORKING HOURS
The seasonally and calendar-adjusted average actual weekly working hours of those employed in the reference period increased by 0.1 hour on a monthly basis, reaching 42.7.
INCREASED IDLE LABOR FORCE RATE
The idle labor force rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and the unemployed, increased by 0.7 points on a monthly basis in August, reaching 27.2%.
The integrated rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 18.2%, while the integrated rate of the unemployed and potential labor force was estimated to be 18.7%.
