Unauthorized Electronic Entry Restricted to the UK

2 Mins Read

Citizens of 48 countries around the globe, including the European Union, now need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. But is Turkey included in these countries?

Under the new system, travelers who do not require a visa to enter the UK will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) through a new digital registration program before their trip.

According to CNN International, those who do not need a visa to travel to the UK will require an electronic travel authorization called ETA that pre-approves their entry into the country before traveling. Turkey is not among the 48 countries included in this program. Launched in 2024 for citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the program has since been extended to other non-European passengers, including six million annual travelers to the UK from the US, Canada, and Australia. The program is valid for visits to the UK for tourism and business purposes lasting less than six months. There are several other ETA categories, including short-term education and permitted paid assignments, listed on the UK government’s website.

VISA OR NOT?

While some may refer to it as a visa, it is actually classified as a visa waiver. Passengers who require a visa to enter the UK based on their nationality will still need to apply for a visa. However, they will not need to obtain an ETA on top of that.
