The United Nations (UN) reiterated its urgent call for a ceasefire after Israel targeted a hospital compound where displaced civilians took shelter in Gaza, as well as a school. The message stated, “The attack targeted the hospital compound. Tents where people were sleeping burned.”The Israeli army launched an attack on the tents housing displaced civilians at the Aqsa Martyrs Hospital compound in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of 4 Palestinians, including a child and a woman, and injuring 40 others. Images shared on social media showed people engulfed in flames in the hospital compound fire, with screams heard in the background.Following the attack, the UN shared a message from its official account. The message reiterated the urgent call for a ceasefire, stating, “An airstrike in Gaza targeted the hospital compound. Tents where people were sleeping burned.” The message also mentioned that the attack targeted the school of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which was intended to be used for administering polio vaccines. The message emphasized the need for an urgent ceasefire to stop this destruction.
