The UK has announced a ban on personal imports of meat and dairy products from EU countries. The UK government stated that the ban on personal imports of meat and dairy products has been expanded due to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease on the continent. Starting today, passengers entering the UK are prohibited from bringing in beef, lamb, goat, pork, and dairy products from EU countries. Items such as sandwiches, cheese, salami, raw meat, and milk, regardless of packaging or whether purchased from duty-free shops, fall under the ban. The British government indicated that this measure was taken to protect the country’s animal health, ensure farmer safety, and enhance food security. Earlier this month, Austria closed its borders with Hungary and Slovakia due to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
