The internet service provider TurkNet’s database was subjected to a cyber attack on March 11th. In a statement from TurkNet, it was mentioned that some customers’ identity information was obtained during the cyber attack.
It was stated that the attack did not include customers’ financial information or TurkNet user passwords. DATABASE TARGETED ATTACK The statement indicated that despite the precautions taken within the scope of the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK), a cyber attack was launched against the institution’s database, with the following statements: “During this incident, the level of necessary technical and administrative measures has been increased, and security has been ensured. Following the occurrence, there have been no interruptions or problems in our service. In the breached database, there are names, surnames, phone numbers, subscription numbers, T.C. ID numbers, identity information, TurkNet subscription circuit information, addresses, and static IP information of some customers.” “EXISTING PASSWORDS CAN BE USED SAFELY” In the statement, it was highlighted that the attack did not encompass customers’ financial information or TurkNet user passwords, emphasizing that this information is end-to-end secure. It was mentioned in the statement that efforts to identify the responsible parties of these acts and initiate necessary legal processes will be carried out in coordination with relevant public institutions and that the necessary violation notification has been made to the Personal Data Protection Authority and the Information Technologies and Communication Authority.
