The Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed its reaction to Israel’s attack on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). In a written statement, it was stated that “Israel’s regular attacks on UNIFIL are evidence that the Netanyahu government is pursuing an occupation policy towards Lebanon and is ready to use arms under any circumstances.”
In the written statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry, a reaction was shown towards Israel’s attack on UNIFIL. The statement emphasized that UNIFIL was tasked with contributing to the security of the region, stating: “Considering that Israel acts with the intention of spreading war in the region, the role of UNIFIL becomes even more crucial. Israel’s regular attacks on UNIFIL are evidence that the Netanyahu government is pursuing an occupation policy towards Lebanon and is ready to use arms under any circumstances.” The statement pointed out that the United Nations Security Council directly appointed the UN forces and stressed that Council members are obliged to prevent attacks against the UN forces. The statement called on all states to adopt a joint stance against Israel and the countries arming Israel.
ÖMER ÇELİK ALSO EXPRESSES REACTION AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, in a post on his social media account, said, “Israel’s attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) means attacking all United Nations member countries. The Netanyahu Government is a threat to all countries and international law. These attacks once again show that Israel sees everyone in favor of ‘peace’ as enemies. All countries that want to preserve peace should act together against Israel.”
WHAT HAPPENED? While clashes continue on the Israel-Lebanon border known as the Blue Line, the United Nations Peace Force in Lebanon was once again targeted.
The Peace Force announced that Israeli tanks demolished the main gate of the UNIFIL post in Ramyah in the south and forcibly entered the position. Reporting that 5 soldiers were slightly injured, the Peace Force described the violations as “shocking.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “It is time to withdraw the UN Peace Force from war zones.”
The Israeli army, on the other hand, stated that an Israeli tank had to enter the UN area a few meters while trying to evacuate the wounded soldiers and left the scene when enemy fire stopped.
