2 Mins Read

Sweden is talking about a Turkish father and son. Mesut Zengin and his 14-year-old son Furkan Zengin, who entered a burning apartment building in the capital city of Stockholm and saved the lives of many neighbors, have been hailed as “heroes” in Sweden. Zengin, who stated that he came to Sweden from the Kulu district of Konya in 2006, said they left the house to take his son to practice and saw flames engulfing the balcony of a neighbor living on the 4th floor of the building.

Zengin explained, “When I noticed the flames on the balcony, I asked my son Furkan to ring the doorbells of all the apartments and inform the neighbors that there was a fire. I also knocked on the doors and rang the doorbells of my neighbors on the 3rd floor to ensure they came out.” He also mentioned that he rescued an elderly couple living on the 4th floor where the fire broke out by using fire extinguishers to bring the flames under control. Zengin said, “I fainted when I went outside due to inhaling high levels of smoke.” He explained that he received initial treatment in an ambulance and choked up when recounting how emotional his wife and child were when they saw his condition. Zengin mentioned that he spent 2 days in the hospital due to inhaling toxic smoke while battling the fire and expressed his gratitude for the care he received during his stay. He emphasized that they demonstrated the kind-hearted nature of Turks. Furkan Zengin recalled feeling terrified after seeing his father lying unconscious in the ambulance.
