Turkey made exports worth over $361 million in the first 10 months of the year, with approximately $155 million carried out by the members of the West Mediterranean Exporters Association (BAIB). According to information compiled from the Turkey Exporters Assembly data, between January 1 and October 31, tomato sales of $361,071,545 were made to 52 countries. Tomato exports, which were $421,866,268 in the same period last year, declined by 14.41% this year. Antalya, known for tourism and agriculture, hosts year-round tomato production on an area of 169,225 hectares. BAIB member companies covering Antalya, Isparta, and Burdur, leading in greenhouse farming, conducted tomato exports of $154,712,024 in the first 10 months of the year. This figure accounted for 42.77% of the overall tomato exports in Turkey. BAIB President Ümit Mirza Çavuşoğlu noted the significant role of Turkey in tomato production. Çavuşoğlu stated that more foreign sales could be made from Turkey, expressing optimism to exceed the billion-dollar mark in exports. He added, “Nearly 50% of Turkey’s exports are covered by our region. The majority of tomato production in Turkey is in Antalya. This is promising, but we still have a long way to go. We can exceed the billion-dollar mark in exports because we have a 20% surplus in tomato production nationwide.” Çavuşoğlu mentioned that they shipped tomatoes to 52 countries nationwide and 41 countries as BAIB, highlighting high figures with Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Russia among the top export destinations both nationwide and regionally. Pointing out the diversification of the tomato market, Çavuşoğlu mentioned that Russia, which was once a significant player in tomato exports, has now fallen to fourth place due to increased domestic production and market diversification efforts. He stated that export to Romania, Ukraine, and Bulgaria has risen with work in alternative markets, with these countries taking the top three spots in tomato sales. Çavuşoğlu reported approximately $70 million in sales to Romania, around $52 million to Ukraine, and $36,144,000 to Bulgaria from nationwide exports within 10 months. He also mentioned that by the end of October this year, Russia received approximately $36 million, with around $11 million coming from BAIB. Çavuşoğlu indicated that Poland and Germany have become significant markets as well, with exports exceeding $18 million to each country.
