President Donald Trump of the United States has revealed a significant defense plan created to ensure the country’s security. This plan aims for the United States to have a defense system like Israel’s “Iron Dome” called the “Golden Dome.” The system, which is planned to have space-based sensors, targets working against threats on a larger scale. According to a report by leading Israeli news site Times of Israel, President Donald Trump requested funding for the high-tech “Golden Dome” missile defense system to protect the homeland during his address to Congress. Trump stated, “My focus is to build the strongest military. I want Congress to fund the technologically advanced ‘Golden Dome’ missile shield produced in the US to protect our nation. Others have it – like Israel. We should have it too. We want protection.” The NAME OF THE DEFENSE SYSTEM CHANGED Trump officially changed the name of the missile defense initiative from “Iron Dome for America” to “Golden Dome for America.” Reports claim that this change was made due to trademark issues because “Iron Dome” is a registered trademark of the Israeli defense company Rafael Advanced Defense. TAKEN INSPIRATION FROM IRON DOME It was suggested that the US administration preferred the name change to avoid legal conflicts while maintaining the basic concept. The official decree signed by Trump on January 27th initially named the program “Iron Dome for America,” but it was later changed to “Golden Dome” on February 25th. The project anticipates a multi-layered shield to defend the entire United States against threats from ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles. The system inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome aims to work on a significantly larger scale. SPACE-BASED SENSORS WILL BE USED An essential component of the initiative will involve space-based sensors and interceptors that allow monitoring and destruction of incoming threats in real time. The US Space Force has established a technical team to develop the potential architecture of the defense system. According to a senior US Air Force official, this strategy aims to intercept enemy bomber planes before they launch missiles on American soil. REAGAN’S DEFENSE SYSTEM INITIATIVE Trump referenced the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) proposed in 1983 that claimed to protect the US against potential missile attacks. Drawing upon former President Ronald Reagan’s space-based defense system, Trump stated, “President Ronald Reagan attempted to build an effective defense against nuclear attacks. While this program led to many technological advancements, it was canceled before achieving its goal.” Trump emphasized that the technology to implement Reagan’s project was not available in 1983 but is currently feasible.
