Trump Vows to Deport Haitian Immigrants from Ohio

2 Mins Read

The Republican candidate of the U.S. elections, Donald Trump, promised to deport Haitian immigrants living and working in Springfield, Ohio if he wins the November elections. The former president is frequently in the spotlight with anti-immigrant rhetoric. During a presidential debate with Kamala Harris on September 10th, Trump claimed that Haitian immigrants “kidnap and eat people’s pets.” In an interview with NewsNation in Houston, Texas on Wednesday evening, Trump stated, “You have to deport people and take them back to their own countries.” When asked whether he would revoke the Temporary Protected Status of Haitian immigrants, he said, “Absolutely. I would revoke the protection and send them back to their own countries.” When asked what he would do if Haiti refused to accept the immigrants, the former president insisted, “So they will take them. They will take them.” Haitian immigrants are legally living and working in Springfield, Ohio. However, they have come under scrutiny after Trump and vice presidential candidate JD Vance spread unfounded rumors that immigrants are kidnapping and eating people’s pets. During a debate with Kamala Harris on September 10th, Trump attacked immigrants by saying, “They are eating the dogs in Springfield. People coming. They are eating cats. They are eating the pets of the people living there.” A Haitian advocacy group called for the arrest of Republican Party candidates for spreading such false information.
