Trump: Mineral Agreement with Ukraine Could be Signed Soon

2 Mins Read

President Trump stated that he expects the signing of a mineral agreement with Ukraine to take place soon.

During a meeting with cabinet members, President Donald Trump mentioned that he anticipates a revenue-sharing agreement regarding Ukraine’s critical minerals to be signed between the United States and Ukraine in the near future. He also noted that discussions have been held about American companies acquiring energy plants in Ukraine. The U.S. delegation met with Ukrainian officials on Sunday and Russian officials in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, today. While the primary focus of the interagency talks was to achieve a ceasefire in the Black Sea region, Trump emphasized that other issues have been raised while attempting to halt the warfare Russia has been waging against Ukraine for three years: “We are currently discussing land matters. We are discussing border lines. We are discussing energy and ownership of energy plants. Some people are saying that the U.S. needs to own energy plants…because we are experts in this field.”

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

After a meeting at the White House, President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a disagreement, following which Zelensky left the White House without signing the expected rare metals agreement. The dispute between the two leaders made global headlines, with European leaders sharing messages of support for Zelensky. Subsequently, Ukrainian officials, including Zelensky, reiterated their readiness to reach an agreement with the United States.
