As wedding season approaches, costs have risen as well. Many now prefer to only have a civil ceremony, so a new wedding model has been developed to lighten the burden on new couples. With this practice, which is half the cost of normal weddings, couples can have a brief wedding ceremony after the civil marriage.
ECONOMIC VIEWPOINTS
In Turkey, nearly 600 thousand couples get married each year. Wedding venue operators believe this method is more economical for both themselves and the couples. Adem Sönmez, President of the Istanbul Wedding Venues Management Chamber, said, “We have introduced a mini version of the two-hour wedding format on Saturdays from 13:00 to 17:00 and Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00.” Wedding venue operator Hakan Karakurt mentioned that this would bring couples a 50% profit. Karakurt stated, “While organizing one event on Saturdays and Sundays during the day, we hope to be beneficial to our industry by possibly having two programs.” A 69% INCREASE The cost of getting married in 2024 increased by 69%. Moreover, henna night, engagement, honeymoon, and jewelry expenses were not included in this percentage. The Istanbul Meeting and Wedding Venue Operators Craftsmen’s Chamber is calling for a reduction in VAT rates from 20% to 10% to lower prices.
