Treasury and Finance Minister Şimşek: Inflation decreasing, will continue to decrease

2 Mins Read

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated, “Inflation is decreasing and it will continue to decrease. We have done everything to implement this program, there is strong political support, and we are determined.”

Speaking at the session titled “Global Challenges and Turkey’s Outlook” organized within the scope of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made comprehensive evaluations regarding the fragile period the global economy is going through and Turkey’s positioning within this scenario.

Minister Şimşek pointed out that the global economy is going through a period of high uncertainty and volatility, stating that Turkey is relatively more resilient to global challenges, and he explained the reforms being undertaken in areas such as foreign trade, energy transformation, artificial intelligence, and defense industry.

Referring to the IMF’s estimates of a 7% decline in global GDP, Şimşek stated, “Trade wars, protectionism, and geopolitical tensions are challenging global production. China dominates global manufacturing; Europe, the United States, and Japan are losing power.” He stressed that Turkey’s growth model is not export-oriented, emphasizing that historically, net exports have been more limiting than contributing to growth.

Minister Şimşek also emphasized that Turkey is less vulnerable to the contraction in global trade due to its relationship with countries with which it has free trade agreements, primarily the European Union. He underlined the importance of regional integration, stating, “You rise with your neighbors, you fall with them. Turkey wants a peaceful and stable region because it is in our interest.”
