Traffic fine for earthquake victim canceled

2 Mins Read

Following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, a traffic fine issued to an earthquake victim from Hatay traveling to another city for having an expired vehicle inspection was canceled. The earthquake victim residing in Hatay, on their way to Bursa after the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, had their vehicle stopped by traffic police due to the expired inspection. During the inquiry, it was determined that the vehicle’s inspection had expired, leading to an administrative fine imposed on the driver. The traffic fine document dated February 27, 2023, was delivered to the driver on May 24, 2024. Seeking assistance from the Public Complaints Authority (KDK) for the cancellation of the fine, the driver’s application stated that due to the state of emergency (OHAL) declared in the provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the vehicle inspection deadlines were frozen until May, as stipulated in the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette. The driver explained that the vehicle inspection was completed in April 2023. After reviewing the application, KDK contacted the General Directorate of Security (EGM) for a solution. In the response sent by EGM, it was reported that the penalty notice was canceled after confirming that the vehicle owner’s place of residence was within the cities declared under a state of emergency.
