This week’s agenda includes Cabinet Meeting today, Treasury’s second-quarter debt stock data, three-month domestic borrowing strategy, and August data for the banking sector. OVERNIGHT INTEREST RATES ON THE RISE The overnight interest rates turned upwards from the lower band of the corridor, indicating whether the impact of the Central Bank’s tightening measures fully reflected in the market or not. Last week, overnight interest rates had dropped to the 47% levels, which was the lower band of the interest rate corridor. Last Friday, overnight interest rates rose to 48.4%. The increase was influenced by the Central Bank’s swap operation exceeding 1 billion dollars and the reserve requirement decision. Liquidity surplus fell below 400 billion TL. CEVDET YILMAZ: INTENSIVE INVESTOR INTEREST IN TURKEY Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that there is intense investor interest in Turkey at the Investment Advisory Council meeting in Istanbul over the weekend with the participation of global company executives and meetings in the USA. Yılmaz said, “A company owned by Saudis expressed their intention to invest 5 billion dollars in Turkey in energy and other sectors.” GLOBAL MARKETS The Israeli army announced on Saturday that they had hit a Hezbollah command center in southern Beirut and killed Hezbollah’s leader Nasrallah. The continuation of Israel’s attacks on Lebanon has increased geopolitical concerns. The focus this week will be on US employment data. Employment data is expected to be decisive in whether the Fed will make a jumbo interest rate cut. In addition, statements from bank officials, including Fed Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech, will be closely monitored.
