Global markets are in a mixed trend ahead of the statements to be made today by Jerome Powell, the President of the Federal Reserve (Fed). Investor focus is also on the growth data to be announced in the U.S. Recession concerns in the U.S. economy and escalating tensions in the Middle East continue to dampen risk appetite in the markets. Signals from Powell’s statements today are expected to significantly influence market direction. While Fed officials continue forward guidance, Adriana Kugler, a member of the Fed Board of Governors, stated yesterday that she strongly supported last week’s decision, saying, “I will support further cuts if progress in inflation continues as I expect.” Expectations remain strong for the Fed to make a 75 basis point cut by the end of the year, while a 50 basis point rate cut in November has a 61% probability. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) revised its growth forecast for this year upward by 0.1% to 3.2% with expectations that the ongoing global deflation process, improving real incomes, and less restrictive monetary policies in many economies will support demand. The report states that economic growth in the U.S. is expected to slow, but it needs to be supported by easing monetary policy. The growth forecast for this year remains unchanged at 2.6%, while the OECD revised its 2025 growth forecast for the U.S. economy downward by 0.2% compared to its May prediction to 1.6%. Analysts noted that in addition to the summary of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) and weekly money and banking statistics in Turkey today, there will be a busy data agenda abroad, including growth and durable goods orders in the U.S., as well as speeches by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell and European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde. They pointed out that technically in the Dollar index, the 100 level is seen as support, while the 101 level is highlighted as resistance.
