Three Attacks by Israel in Lebanon Involving “War Crimes”

2 Mins Read

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) announced that they documented three attacks by Israel in Lebanon that “clearly involve war crimes.” The organization uncovered the war crimes by interviewing eyewitnesses and analyzing photos, videos, and satellite images related to the attacks.

According to the Human Rights Watch (HRW), the attacks were examined on October 3 in a civilian defense center in the Bourj el-Barajneh neighborhood in central Beirut, on October 4 near the entrance of the Marcayoun Hospital in southern Lebanon belonging to the Islamic Health Committee, and also in the southern town of Bint Jbeil at the Martyr Salah Ghandour Hospital.

The statement noted that Israel unlawfully hit health personnel, transport vehicles, and facilities in Lebanon, causing the deaths of 14 health workers in three clearly war crimes.

The statement included, “The Israeli government accuses Hezbollah of using ambulances to transport fighters and hospitals to store weapons and equipment. Human Rights Watch could not find any evidence justifying the deprivation of their status during the attacks of these three facilities for military purposes.”

Israel killed at least 163 health and civil defense workers in Lebanon and damaged 158 ambulances and 55 hospitals in the last year until October 25.

The statement stated, “Since there is no military justification for attacks on health facilities, these attacks are unlawful. Attacks on medical facilities constitute war crimes if committed with the intent to commit a crime, that is, intentionally or recklessly.”
