2 Mins Read

In the city of Duisburg in Germany, some schools received threatening emails. The electronic mails referred to “cleaning” and it was reported that this word carried the meaning of “ethnic cleansing” during the Nazi era. Due to the threat messages, it was reported that education was suspended for a day in 15 primary and middle schools.

An announcement from the Duisburg police in Germany stated that unidentified far-right individuals sent threatening emails to some schools. The statement mentioned that due to the threats, education was paused for a day in 15 primary and middle schools, resulting in 18,000 students being unable to attend school.

REFERENCE TO THE NAZI ERA
The emails mentioned “cleaning,” a term that was also used during the National Socialism era to describe the persecution of Jews, Sinti, Roma, and disabled individuals.

CALL FOR CIVIL DEFENSE EXERCISE
The Ministry of the Interior, in a statement to Handelsblatt newspaper, emphasized the importance of children in schools being prepared for war and crisis situations. The statement highlighted that given the recent security developments, more focus should be placed on civil defense, including school education.

“STOCK UP ON 72-HOUR SUPPLIES”
In the recommendation to stock up on emergency supplies, it was advised to have at least a 72-hour supply to effectively manage temporary crisis situations. Christian Democratic Union (CDU) lawmaker Roderich Kiesewetter emphasized the necessity of emergency drills, especially because students are particularly vulnerable in emergency situations. Kiesewetter also called for basic education on emergency behavior in disaster situations, stating that this would be wise for society as a whole.
