The Past Support for Bipartisan Government Efficiency

1 Mins Read

The push for government efficiency doesn’t mean advocating for a smaller government. As reforms are underway by the Trump administration, Congress, and the Department of Government Efficiency, the focus should be on achieving good outcomes while using tax dollars wisely. A bipartisan government-reform law from a few years ago could offer valuable assistance in this pursuit. Waste and fraud are key obstacles to efficiency, particularly with the increase seen during the pandemic. The Government Accountability Office has noted significant improper payments and fraud amounting to billions annually. Recommendations have been made to reduce these errors, but questions remain about government programs’ effectiveness and efficient use of resources. The Evidence Act of 2018 aims to address these issues by promoting evidence-based policymaking, although the success of this effort is still to be determined. Through systematic program evaluations, it is hoped that federal programs can be improved to better achieve their goals while making efficient use of taxpayer dollars.
