A horrific medical error changed the life of 26-year-old Molly Harbron. After enduring 16 painful hours of waiting in the Emergency Room, the young woman woke up to find out her leg had been amputated. Molly, who could not remember anything before that moment, found herself stepping into the darkest period of her life.

On April 25, 2020, Molly Harbron arrived at the Emergency Room with a numb foot, cold leg, and loss of color. Only 22 years old at the time, the young woman came to the hospital in great pain. Although healthcare workers suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in her leg, they delayed conducting the necessary tests, causing Molly to suffer for 16 hours.

Health officials allowed enough time to pass for the restoration of blood flow in the leg and postponed any intervention. The 16-hour delay resulted in the amputation of the leg. Hospital management acknowledged that if the leg had been operated on by 9:00 pm, Molly’s amputation could have been prevented. However, the young woman, forced to wait one more day, woke up without her leg, experiencing a great trauma.

The loss of her leg was not only a physical but also a psychological devastation for Molly. Working in a physically demanding job and running three days a week as a young woman, the idea of continuing her life with one leg seemed unbearable. However, she managed to pull herself together over time and decided to give her life a new direction.

After leaving the hospital, about a month later, Molly met her boyfriend Daniel. The couple got married, and Molly managed to sit at the wedding table with her prosthetic leg. The first prosthesis gave her great discomfort as it didn’t fit her body properly. Starting to use a specially designed prosthesis, Molly began to return to her old life. She can now walk comfortably, shop, and drive a car.

Following the trauma she experienced, Molly filed a lawsuit regarding medical negligence. Lawyers re-examined Molly’s care.
