Tension rises at the border: South Korea opens fire on North Korean soldiers

1 Mins Read

The South Korean army announced that warning shots were fired after North Korean soldiers violated the military border line.

According to a statement by the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, warning shots were fired at 10 North Korean soldiers who crossed the border.

The statement said, “Our army made warning announcements and warning shots after 10 North Korean soldiers crossed the military border line in the eastern part of the demilitarized zone at around 5 p.m. local time. Our army closely monitors the activities of the North Korean army and takes necessary measures according to operational procedures.”

It was reported that the North Korean soldiers later returned to their country.

In a statement made by the South Korean army yesterday, it was stated that during military exercises by North Korea, around 1,500 North Korean soldiers were conducting terrain work in the barbed wire and soldier-free zone.

South Korea and North Korea are technically still at war since the end of the 1950-53 wars was through an armistice, not a peace treaty.
