Sweden sets a precedent: Smartphones banned in schools

1 Mins Read

The Swedish government has decided to ban the use of smartphones in primary and secondary schools.

Sweden’s Minister of Education, Lotta Edholm, announced the ban of smartphones in primary and secondary schools nationwide. According to their scientific research, Edholm stated that students would feel better without cell phones in class, as smartphones distract their attention and negatively impact exam results. Hinting that students’ cell phones will be collected before entering the classroom and locked away in a box, Edholm mentioned that teachers will also refrain from using cell phones during class by leaving them in a designated place. Edholm announced that the ban on smartphones in schools will come into effect starting from July 1, 2026.
