In Germany, it has emerged that Alexander Scheuermann, who drove into a crowd with his vehicle, causing the deaths of 2 people, is linked to far-right extremists. The incident in Mannheim, Germany, saw a vehicle plow into a crowd, resulting in the deaths of 2 individuals and severe injuries to 5, with 11 others wounded. Following the incident, Alexander Scheuermann was apprehended and taken into custody. It was alleged that the suspect had connections to far-right circles in the past. An investigative group called Exif revealed that Alexander Scheuermann was a member of a far-right gun network called “Ring Bund” and was listed as associated with the group in a list created by member Bernd Zimmermann in 2018. Authorities pointed out in a statement that the incident in Mannheim was not being treated as a politically motivated crime at the moment, raising surprise that the political aspect of the offense was not a focus of the investigation. The allegation of Scheuermann establishing ties to a gun network was highlighted in the investigation, with numerous documents related to the formation of the Ring Bund group being seized, indicating Scheuermann’s initial connection to the group in September 24, 2018. Additionally, photos of Scheuermann participating in an far-right demonstration in Berlin in 2018 were also included. Emphasizing that disregarding the potential political motivation behind the incident in Mannheim would be a disaster, a demand was made in the statement for an investigation into the political dimension of the case due to the suspect’s affiliation with the far-right “Ring Bund” group, regardless of whether he had any psychological illness or conflicting statements on social media. The incident that took place in Mannheim involved a black SUV speeding from Paradeplatz square towards the water tower, striking people in its path. The event on March 3 resulted in the death of an 83-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man, with 5 individuals in critical condition and 11 others injured. The driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Scheuermann, was arrested following the incident.
