Due to a strike by employees at Brussels Airport in Belgium, all flights scheduled to depart tomorrow have been cancelled.
Brussels Airport officials announced that on Tuesday, October 1st, security staff will go on strike, leading to significant disruptions in operations. The statement mentioned that “in order to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, airlines, in consultation with Brussels Airport, have decided not to operate any departure flights on October 1st.” The announcement indicated that affected passengers will be contacted by the airlines, advising those with outbound flights not to come to the airport on October 1st.
ARRIVAL FLIGHTS MAY ALSO BE CANCELLED. It was highlighted in the statement that flights from other destinations to Brussels may still operate, but there could be cancellations in those as well, thus passengers with flights to Brussels are advised to check the status of their flights. It is expected that around 50,000 passengers will be affected by the strike at Brussels Airport. Employees are complaining about increased workloads and deteriorating working conditions. They find the airport infrastructure, public transportation options, and rest areas inadequate and are demanding improvements. In addition to Brussels Airport, all flights in both arrival and departure directions were cancelled at Charleroi Airport in Belgium on September 12-13 due to a strike by staff providing services such as baggage handling, check-in, refueling, and security.
