2 Mins Read

Israeli media reports on the failure of Netanyahu’s visit to the White House. The website “Times of Israel” wrote that Netanyahu did not get what he wanted from Trump regarding taxes, Iran, and Turkey. It was noted that Trump praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan alongside Netanyahu.

“Netanyahu returns home empty-handed” According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronot, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington was summarized this way. It emphasized that the visit did not go as planned for Netanyahu and that President Donald Trump called Netanyahu to the White House not to agree on taxes, but to prioritize diplomacy in the Iranian nuclear crisis.

“FAILED TO SECURE TAX CUT” It was highlighted that Trump aimed to prevent Israel from sabotaging US-Iran negotiations and attacking Iran.

Yedioth Ahronot reported that Netanyahu received a more demeaning response from Trump regarding taxes. It was stressed that Netanyahu failed to secure a tax cut and would return home empty-handed on this issue. The lack of a concrete decision on the release of hostages in Gaza during the meeting at the White House was also pointed out.

BALANCING ACT BETWEEN TURKEY AND ISRAEL Trump’s remarks about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan indicated that the US would try to prevent conflict between Turkey and Israel. The Times of Israel website wrote that Netanyahu aimed to get concessions as he was the first leader to meet with Trump at the White House after raising taxes. However, it was mentioned that he failed to achieve this goal, as Trump did not agree to a tax cut but reminded Israel of the billions of dollars in aid given annually.

PRAISE FOR PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN DREW ATTENTION Times of Israel also noted that Trump’s announcement of direct negotiations with Iran was a surprise for Netanyahu and his team. It highlighted that Trump praised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who strongly criticized Israel and supported Hamas, alongside Netanyahu. It was even pointed out that Trump told Netanyahu to “be reasonable” on issues with Turkey. It was stated that the perception that Netanyahu would have an easy four years during Trump’s administration was shattered with this visit.
