The health condition of the 91-year-old Cameroonian President Paul Biya, who has been absent from the screens for a long time, has once again become a topic of discussion throughout the country. Following the recent speculations, debates regarding the president’s health have been forbidden. Authorities in Cameroon have banned discussions about Biya’s health after the latest speculations arose due to his prolonged absence from the public eye. Interior Minister Paul Atanga Nji stated in a letter to regional governors on October 9th that discussions about the health condition of the 91-year-old president are considered a matter of national security. Therefore, any discussion in the media about the president’s condition has been strictly prohibited.
APPLICABLE TO SOCIAL MEDIA AS WELL Nji, who announced that offenders would be prosecuted, emphasized that the ban also applies to social media. The new ban came after government spokesman René Sadi dismissed rumors earlier this week that Biya had died in a hospital in Paris or Geneva.
RUNNING THE COUNTRY FROM A HOTEL IN GENEVA In recent years, the President has been running the country from the five-star Intercontinental hotel in Geneva. There is a floor reserved for him, his wife, and a team of loyalists and followers. Speculations about Biya’s death occasionally resurface in the media due to the elderly leader’s prolonged absence from Cameroon and the public eye.
